Dreams & Results Begin with a Solid Foundation
If you’re like many striving for Peak Performance you have drive and goals. However, sometimes even the most motivated among us find
it challenging to take that first step toward achieving their aspirations. Below are three steps I recommend to my clients when working to create the life of their dreams.
1. Trace Your Roots
Commit to being honest with yourself about what matters most to you and why. Consider where your values and motivations stem from – often our dreams and desires are rooted in past experiences, external input and relationships. While none of us can be totally free from influence, we can each make a concerted effort to live as authentic a life as possible. Take time to reflect on the origins of your ambitions and thoughts, this will allow you to mindfully decide which ties to hold onto and which to set free.
2. Outline Your Path
Aligning our ambition with action can prove challenging, especially if we are out of sync with our roots and have a shaky foundation. Now that you know where you stand with yourself and why, you can begin to develop a plan for how to create the life you desire from the foundation you’ve just reinforced. If a particular goal feels too lofty or overwhelming, consider breaking it down into smaller steps. Remember small hinges can swing large doors – take your time and keep moving steadily forward toward your aspiration. Every small accomplishment
counts and helps you achieve your potential.
3. Take Action
Once you’ve identified your goal and the origin of your dreams, it can feel as though you’ve nearly crossed the finish line. However, many driven individuals still struggle to accomplish their desires. The space between inspiration and accomplishment is often filled with inaction – our minds are phenomenal at conceptualizing what motivates us, but less so at executing the necessary steps to yield results
. Case and point – how often do you talk yourself out of making that first scary and awkward move? When it’s time to put your plan into action, that’s all that’s really required. Set yourself up for success and create an environment in your life that makes taking these steps easier. If you’re trying to hit the gym regularly after work, pack your gym bag the night before. Trying to eat healthier? Shop the perimeter of the store and skip the packaged foods. Trying to expand your client base? Connect with one new person each morning first thing – yes, before your workday begins!
With a solid foundation in place, the only thing standing between you and the life you truly want to experience might just be your own inaction. Stop thinking and start doing!
