3 Tips to Optimize Your “Unplugged” Vacation
If you are traveling to an exotic location or have a relaxing local getaway planned this summer – why not fully savor it by “unplugging” from your everyday life and focusing fully on the adventure that lies ahead. Being constantly in “go” mode can quickly exhaust your body and your mind and leave you feeling less than stellar. One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is taking the time to rest on a much deeper level and allowing yourself to “recharge” mentally and physically. Below are 3 of my favorite tips for taking a vacation “unplugged”:
1. Think ahead
Satisfy the Type A part of your personality and think through all potential professional and personal loop holes ahead of time – basically ask yourself what needs to get done while you’re away and what could potentially go wrong that may need to be addressed. Once you’re very clear on your needs, your company’s needs, etc. then it will be much easier to move on to step 2.
2. Delegate
The world will not fall apart without you at the helm for a few days or a week or however long you choose to be away. If you are clear on what all of your upcoming needs are then you will be able to proactively put parameters in place to guarantee your success and continued follow-through while on vacation. Make your most trusted team members aware of your exact needs and any potential issues and let them know how to reach you in the case of an emergency or urgent question.
3. Streamline Access
In this day and age technology is critical and staying in touch can be important – but it’s also easy to become overrun by the number of devices on hand. While on vacation choose your primary form of communication – is it your Smartphone? Your Tablet? Decide what your preferred method of contact is and let your team know what hours you will be reachable. The last thing you want to be doing while on vacation is constantly monitoring incoming messages – if you’re doing this than you might as well be in the office and you are not getting the rest that your body needs. Everyone back home will benefit from a refreshed and well-rested you walking back in the door ready to tackle what’s on your plate!
Here’s to an enjoyable and “unplugged” vacation this summer!
